Dowell, IL

Dowell was founded as a coal mining town. The main reason for growth and people moving there was the export of coal and the opportunity of jobs. Most houses in Dowell today were either old coal houses or a type of store. Dowell's population to date is 422 people. One hundred and ninety two males and two hundred and thirty females. Dowell's claim to fame is that it is the home to the famous billiards player Minnesota Fats.
