Accelerated Reading Field Trip

Miners_1Miners_2

This school year, many students went above and beyond just reading a book. They tried to meet a goal of one hundred twenty-five points in the Accelerated Reader program with the hope of receiving a special reward. Thirteen students met this goal and got the opportunity to go on a field trip to a Southern Illinois Miners baseball game.

They left for their field trip on Wednesday, May 11 at 8:30 a.m. It just so happened to be the hottest day yet this year. The Miners played the Gateway Grizzlies. Even though the Miners lost 16-4, everyone had a good time. We also got to interview Mrs. Doerr and the Miners’ financial director, Cathy Perry.

                               INTERVIEW WITH CATHY PERRY

G&E: What's it like working for the Miners?

CP: Working for the Miners of course is fun because of the great environment that I get to work in.  Each season things are a little different so it is constantly changing which keeps it interesting.

G&E: Do you expect the Miners to have a good season?

CP: Sure, Coach Mike Pinto always works hard to put together a great team.

G&E: Are there any new players on the team this year?

CP: Officially the 2011 roster has not been set yet since we are still in spring training but it will be a mix of returning and new players.

G&E: What do you do at your job?

CP:  I am the Director of Finance for the Miners; I manage the financial aspect of the business.

G&E: Do you get free stuff for working at Rent One Park like tickets and merchandise?

CP: As an employee of the Miners we get some vouchers to the games but most of the full time staff has to work during the games.
